Week in a Peek January 14-18th

Here is what’s happening in the classroom in the upcoming week. Monday: Phy Ed and Music (Students need recorders) Tuesday: Art Wednesday: Phy Ed Thursday: Music Friday: LMC Reading: Our theme will continue to be “Forces of Nature?” Our focus question this week is “How do destructive forces lead to the creation of something new?” and “How does the power of the water change Earth’s surface?” The vocabulary words of the week are: dormant, circulate, seep, climate, stable, devastation. Our writing focus will be descriptive essays. Spelling: We will have our Unit 4, week 1 spelling test on January 15th. These words have the pattern VCCV along with our review and high frequency words. We will have a new list on Thursday with VCV pattern. We will continue our rounds to see who will represent us in the spelling bee. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on decimals. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will continue our unit on foods and nutrition. We will be learning about “My Plate”, food labels, and food safety. Social Studies: We will begin learning about the colonies road to self-government leading up to the American Revolution. Notes: -We are planning another popcorn sale for safety patrol. Please send in one package of popcorn kernels that we could use for the sale if you are able to. This is not the microwave popcorn as we use a popcorn machine. Thank you for your assistance. -1/16/13 and 1/23/13, MAP assessments will be given. We will be assessing reading and math. -1/16/13, Early Dismissal at 1:10 -1/18/13 Popcorn Sale -1/24/13 Spelling Bee Day -1/25/13 No School Our PBIS goal is 30 stars. Congratulations to the students for reaching their goal on Friday, January 11th 2013. The students have been enjoying a snack time. Jan. 7-11th

Our writing focus will finish compare/contrast essays and start descriptive essays. Spelling: We will be using the Unit 4, week 1 words which will be pretested on Monday and tested on January 15th. These words have the pattern VCCV along with our review and high frequency words. We will begin our rounds to see who will represent us in the spelling bee. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on decimals. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will begin our unit on foods and nutrition. We will have the students learn about the digestive system. Social Studies: We will begin learning about the colonies road to self-government leading up to the American Revolution. Notes: -1/14/13, MAP assessment window opens and we will sign up for our time in the upcoming weeks.
