Week in a Peek April 8-12th

Here is what’s happening in the classroom in the upcoming week. Monday: Art Tuesday: Phy Ed Wednesday: Music Thursday: LMC Friday: Phy Ed Reading: Our theme will be “What place do plants have in the world?” Our focus question this week is “What are the stages of a plant’s life cycle?” The vocabulary words of the week are: extraordinary, haze, and disguise. Our writing focus will be a Civil War report. Spelling: These words are words with unstressed syllables along with our review and high frequency words. The pretest was given on Tuesday. We will have our Unit 6, week 3 spelling test on Friday, April 15th. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on dividing by single and double digits. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science/Health: We will begin learning about the Endocrine System and diseases. Social Studies: We will be learning about the Civil War. We will be combining our report for reading with Social Studies. They are writing a civil war report about one person and one other topic. Notes: We have a clinical student coming to our classroom from UWL to learn about working with students and learning about teaching. His name is Mr. Cody Endres. He will be in the classroom from April 8th-26th in the mornings and some other full days. Early Dismissal in May: The May early dismissal day is on May 22. It states May 15 in our calendar we sent home. Last Day of School: Our last day of school is now June 6 due to the snow days. Upcoming Dates for you: -4/17/03: Early Dismissal -4/18/03-4/22/03 Safety Patrol Students to Washington DC Our PBIS goal is 35 stars. We have 28 stars on our new goal. The students have been enjoying a snack time. Week in a Peek March 18-22

Here is what’s happening in the classroom in the upcoming week. Monday: Art Tuesday: Phy Ed Wednesday: Music Thursday: LMC Friday: Phy Ed Reading: Our theme will be “What place do plants have in the world?” Our focus question this week is “What can we learn by taking a closer look at plants?” The vocabulary words of the week are: examine, nutrient, and temperate. Our writing focus will be to finish the procedural essays. We will work on final drafts. Spelling: These words are words that have the final “en”, “cher”, “zher” sounds along with our review and high frequency words. The pretest was given on Monday. We will have our Unit 6, week 1 spelling test on Tuesday, March 26th. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on double digit multiplication. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will be working on weathering and erosion in Science. We will continue with food chemistry labs this week. Social Studies: We will be learning about the beginning of slavery and the Civil War. Notes: Please send in permission slips for the Wisconsin Dells trip if your child is on safety patrol. Easter Break: Be aware that if we have 4 snow days, we will return to school on April 2. If there are less than 4 snow days, we will return to school on April 3. Friday: Phy Ed and Music Reading: Our theme will continue to be “What events have shaped America?” Our focus question this week is “How do people shape a nation?” The vocabulary words of the week are: intimidating, pioneer, emigrate, immigrant, abroad, poverty, triumph, pronounce, admire, slump. Our writing focus will be procedural essays. We will continue to work on our rough drafts and correcting them. Spelling: These words are words that come from other languages along with our review and high frequency words. The pretest was given on Monday. We will have our Unit 5, week 4 spelling test on Monday, March 18th. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on double digit multiplication. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will be working on plate tectonics and landforms in Science. We will continue with food chemistry labs this week. Social Studies: We will be learning about the War of 1812 and the time in history before the Civil War. Notes: Notes regarding Parent Teacher Conferences were sent home on Friday, March 1st. Please look for them and let me know if you have any challenges in attending. Spring BooK Fair is coming! Volunteers are needed to help setup, staff and break down the spring book fair. Set up will start at 3:15 on Friday, March 8. Sales days are March 12 and March 14 from 2:30 to 6:30. Pack up will start at 3:15 on March 15. Week in a Peek Feb 11-14th

Here is what’s happening in the classroom in the upcoming week. Monday: ART Tuesday: Phy Ed Wednesday: Music (Students need recorders for music.) Thursday: LMC (Friendship Party in the afternoon) Friday: No School Reading: Our theme will continue to be “What events have shaped America?” Our focus question this week is “Why did America grow geographically?” The vocabulary words of the week are: intimidating, pioneer, emigrate, immigrant. Our writing focus will be to finish descriptive essays. We will continue to work on our final drafts. Spelling: These words have the final schwa + l sound along with our review and high frequency words. The pretest will be given on Monday. We will have our Unit 5, week 1 spelling pretest on Monday, February 11th. The regular test will be on Feb. 18th or 19th. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on multiplying fractions and multiplying mixed numbers. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on www.ixl.com/signin/meadowview or www.mathisfun.com at home to practice their math concepts. Science: We will continue our unit on foods and nutrition. We will also be working on Food Chemistry. Social Studies: We will continue learning about the Constitution and how it works. Wednesday: LMC Thursday: Phy Ed Friday: Phy Ed and Music Reading: Our theme will continue to be “Forces of Nature?” Our focus question this week is “How does the changing Earth affect living thing?” The vocabulary words of the week are: dormant, circulate, seep, climate, stable, devastation, diversity, ecologist, and ozone. Our writing focus will be descriptive essays. We will continue to work on our rough drafts and correcting them. Spelling: These words have the pattern VV along with our review and high frequency words. The pretest will be given on Monday. We will have our Unit 4, week 4 spelling test on Friday, February 8th. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on fractions. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will continue our unit on foods and nutrition. We will be learning about “My Plate”, food labels, and food safety. We had a guest speaker from the school nutrition program speak on Thursday, January 31st. Ask your child about the super foods and serving sizes. We will also be working on Food Chemistry. These words have the pattern VCCV along with our review and high frequency words. We will have a new list on Thursday with VCV pattern. We will continue our rounds to see who will represent us in the spelling bee. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on decimals. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will continue our unit on foods and nutrition. Jan. 7-11th

Monday: Art Tuesday: Phy Ed Wednesday: Music Thursday: LMC Friday: Phy Ed Reading: Our theme will continue to be “Forces of Nature?” Our focus question this week is “How do destructive forces lead to the creation of something new?” The vocabulary words of the week are: dormant, circulate and seep. Our writing focus will finish compare/contrast essays and start descriptive essays. Spelling: We will be using the Unit 4, week 1 words which will be pretested on Monday and tested on January 15th. These words have the pattern VCCV along with our review and high frequency words. We will begin our rounds to see who will represent us in the spelling bee. Math: Students should continue to work on learning multiplication and division facts. They are also working on decimals. We are continuing to work on our math boxes. Students can go on IXL at home to practice their math. Science: We will begin our unit on foods and nutrition. We will have the students learn about the digestive system. Social Studies: We will begin learning about the colonies road to self-government leading up to the American Revolution. Notes: -1/14/13, MAP assessment window opens and we will sign up for our time in the upcoming weeks.
